Duplex Sonography in Acute Ischemic Stroke
Kim Seo-Hyun

Abstract
Extracranial arterial stenosis or occlusion due to atherosclerosis, cardiac embolism, dissection, and arteritis, may cause acute ischemic stroke. Duplex sonography is useful to noninvasively investigate the morphologic information and hemodynamic changes of extracranial arteries in acute ischemic stroke. Duplex sonography can be performed at the bed side and repeated at short intervals as needed. Using transcranial color duplex sonography, sonothrombolysis therapy is tried in the patients with hyperacute ischemic stroke.
